- from when I saw it for sale last summer. It had been sitting all winter just as you see it above, and it more 0r less started up fine. It runs great. Most things work (all the important stuff). It only has a few open holes in the roof from where lights used to be mounted (most are plugged but not all). What a beast, I love it.
A few details:
1961 Ford F100
292 Y-block V8
4 speed manual, 4wd with low range
36,179.7 miles
Owned by the Washington, VT Fire Dept From 1961 until May 2015. The owner of a metal recycling / scrap yard bought it last year and drove it, fixed some little stuff, and now wants to get rid of it.
Now I need to find a good home for my 1972 F100.
More to come, I should be picking it up tomorrow.
Update:
The roads got salted again yesterday thanks to a f$#(*& DUSTING of snow. So, the current owner is being nice enough to deliver it to my house on his flatbed tow truck. Seems a little silly, but I do want to get it on my property so I can start messing with it, fixing things, generally admiring it... And if I want antique plates, I have to wait a bit so I can’t really drive it on the road for a week or two. So it arrives at lunch time today! My 3 year old said in his best excited voice “WE! Are going to have a FIRE TRUCK! In our DRIVEWAY!?” I think he maybe disappointed when he sees that it’s not 30 feet long, red, covered with ladders, hoses and flashing lights... anyway.

Yeah I wonder how much it was used year to year. As a forestry rig, I suspect it sat most of the time. Not a lot of big forest fires in the Northeast.

Wow, great find. I would leave it mostly as is if it were me. It's great when old trucks have a story. Like they're just old retired chaps who still wear the ball cap from their lifelong employer.

I approve of this so hard.
I wonder what that paint would look like after some buffing.

It’s a beast. But it’s not gigantic or anything. Just generally awesome.

Yeah, no way I’m changing the exterior of this truck. I love that it’s mostly “original” - although lots of evidence of brushed-on touch-ups over the years - and yet it’s over 50 years old.

It’ll get a wash, in any case. There have been lots of brushed-on touch-ups over the years. Not sure buffing is in the cards...

Yeah, it might become a downside actually - I got comments on my very plain ‘72 just about everywhere I went. This one will attract even more attention... but a good kind I guess. There is a universal appeal to a truck like this.

I am super jealous! That thing is beautiful!
So... What’s up with the ‘72 now?

It’s officially for sale. Know anyone? I paid $3,200 for it in 2007. It was $3,200 new from the dealer (I have the original bill of sale). I want to sell it for... you guessed it! $3,200.
The guy I bought the ‘72 from may end up buying it back. We’ll see.
Oh, and thanks! More to come on the ‘61...

Wow this is so cool, very close to the truck I learned to drive in, a 1965 3/4 ton 4wd ford F100. Same 4 speed stick and transfer case. Manual everything, I mean everyting.

I think the lettering is painted on. If not, it’s been there waaaaayyy too long to take off reasonably. So yes, they’re staying.

Not yet. Know anyone? $3,200. (same as I paid in 2007, same as it was new from the dealer in ‘72, I have the original bill of sale)

No kidding. The ‘72 F100 is my favorite Ford truck. I’m in no position to buy any vehicle right now. Plus, I’m in California. I’d be curious just the same to learn more about your truck.
